Elizabeth Tyson Hooper Baucum Probate, Pope Co, AR, 1875
Elizabeth Tyson died in 1875. The following probate papers list Elizabeth's
property at the time of her death, and they state that George BYERLY of Pope
County was made guardian of her surviving children, Sam Hooper and Joel Eli
Baucum.
Some points:
- In the 1880 census, Sam Hooper was living back in TN, and Joel Eli Baucum
was living in the household of John and Sally (TYSON) O'DANIEL on Pope Co,
AR. Sally, daughter of Joel Tyson and Mary E. Hooper, was Joel Eli's first cousin. We don't know if Joel Eli or Sam ever
resided with George Byerly.
- The child James M. H. HOOPER, listed on the 1860 and 1870 censuses, is not shown as a minor heir. Presumably he had died.
- The 'railroad improvements' mentioned in the papers haven't been located
but are concerning the route of the Little Rock and Fort Smith Railroad, which
ran through Galley Rock. They are a clue to where Elizabeth was living. It is possible that the land was part of her inheritance from her father Samuel, but not yet known, this needs further study.
- There are no bills of sale among the probate papers, it would be usual to
find them, the proceeds of any sale remain to be located.
- We still don't have the date of death for Elizabeth, but from these
papers we know she died before early November 1875. She may be buried
near Atkins or Galley Rock.
